The 4200 rpm drives in these laptops are not exactly speed demons themselves. Another thing to keep in mind is that not all CF cards are created equal, speed wise. That said, I seem to remember seeing plug in PCMCIA hard drives somewhere recently at a pretty reasonable price. I'm not sure if one of these would work with the '2400 though.
