AFAIK, the keyboard outputs a key matrix.  I have been curious about 
this question myself.  I wonder if you could use a Newton serial 
keyboard for what you are planning...  But then, you'd probably have 
to write a driver for it...

Why not use a IIgs Apple Keyboard or Apple Keyboard II for this?  They 
are pretty small (granted, not laptop-small), reasonably abundant, 
relatively cheap, and 100% ADB.  I mean, if you are not going to use 
the whole keyboard, does it really matter how big the keyboard is?  
All you want is the switch mechanism, right?  Come to think of it, Duo 
keyboard switches might be hard to make work.  Do you have a duo 
keboard to take a peak at?  If not, go to Mad Dog's site - he's got 
some picks of a Duo keyboard's innards (he was cleaning it, but the 
pics still show the switch mechanism)..
