Another possibility your ISP or phone line quality could be maxing out at 28.8 or 33k or so....that would also "equalize" the transfer rates. What is the speed you notice? And how are you measuring it? Or, if you have an External Global platinum 33.6, read the lowendmac.com report on the 6320 to realize that likely you are throttling the modem down to 9600 really if you put an external modem on a 6320 (I don't recall the Platinum modems well enough to know if it's possible to have a 33.6 external, they might have only gone up to 28.8 external, someone know??). I know your Zoom 56k has to be external :) Anyway the 6320's are pretty crippled in performance in other ways, too, so it's not unlike that the 6320 despite the PPC is equal or below the 68040 in overall performance, regardless...I think there were some posts about this on this list just the other day. See www.lowendmac.com for particulars. That could make it again just a line quality/speed issue (since the 6320 might not "really" be a faster CPU, all things considered). There's a AT command you can set to enable that you get DCE speed reported, not just DTE speed, which might help you figure out what's going on, too. I used to know most of the AT commands by heart, but it's been too long since I've modem'ed much. Brian -- PowerBooks is sponsored by <http://lowendmac.com/> and...
