I have had trouble receiving email from the list so have not posted my
question, but here goes anyway (I guess I'll read the mail off the
website...) PLEASE CC me directly too if you can....

I posted this to applefritter forums but didn't receive [much of] an answer,
maybe you guys can help me:

I bought a Wireless Network PCCard off eBay, unfortunately it isn't the
preferred Silver model (which can be easily upgraded to 'Gold' (128 bit
encryption) with the Apple Airport Software) but is the Bronze Turbo model
(8Mbps, 30mw, no encryption).

I downloaded the software from
<http://workingwireless.net/wireless/Installers/>
(couldn't find anything on the Agere page). after installing the software I
get the error:
'WaveLAN PC Card Driver (v6.00.4) - Incompatible feature (prevents enable)'
The green light stays on, but nothing else happens.

According to the readme I need to put the card into a Windows machine to
upgrade the Firmware ( the updater 'WSU10408' is Windows only)!

According to this page I could permanently damage my Bronze card if I try to
update it with the Airport software:
<http://maccentral.macworld.com/news/0003/22.airport.shtml>
But that webpage is old and the Apple document referred to no longer exists.
Was this fixed in a newer version of Airport? (I have downloaded the last
version that works with OS9.1, but am hesitant to try it)

Has anyone tried a late version of Airport with a WaveLAN Bronze card? Or
does anyone know of a way to update the firmware on the card without a
Windoze Laptop (I sold mine as fast as I could years ago...) Thanks for your
help.
