I have a DSL with a cable modem -- great way to go. A couple of observations. First, the risk of getting hacked are significantly lower with a Mac since most of the viruses are designed to attack MS-Win machines. Second, if you get a router (so that you can attach more than one unit to the network), most of the routers have built-in firewalls. If you need this protection, it can be triggered by you. Third, I have had the system hooked up for over three months and I have had no problem. I hope that this helps.
