Rob, Victoria Duggan tried doing exactly what you are proposing earlier in the year with a 190cs. The good news is that it does work. See this thread for more: <http://www.mail-archive.com/[email protected]/msg04871.html> There is no hardware reason of which I am aware that will prevent a 5300 from using a Li-ion battery from the 3400 (the 5300 was _designed_ to operate with one, after all). System software greater than 7.5.2 does not correctly recognize Li-ion batteries on the 5300, however, since after the Sony battery disaster on the 5300, Li-ion battery support was dropped like a hot brick. If you charge the battery on the 3400, you can put it in your 5300. It will probably give 3 - 4 hours of running time (according to earlier posts to this list - see the archive), but the system's charge indicators (control strip, menu bar, etc) won't function correctly, so you won't know how much time you have left in the battery. The 5300 will not charge the li-ion battery, of course. The best solution is to pick up a new-used battery somewhere. The NiMH batteries are so dirt cheap as to be ridiculous. $30 should get you one in good to great condition on eBay. Some go for as little as $5. Same deal with the power supply. They are all over eBay. ... of course, you can also use the 3400 to charge a 5300 NiMH battery, but that makes for an expensive battery charger. ;-) Peace, Drew -- <http://homepage.mac.com/alk/> "There are of course many problems connected with life, of which some of the most popular are `Why are people born?' `Why do they die?' `Why do they spend so much of the intervening time wearing digital watches?'" -- Douglas Adams' "The Hitchhiker's Guide to the Galaxy." -- PowerBooks is sponsored by <http://lowendmac.com/> and...
