I was getting to thinking that it might be a ROM issue.  I just don't 
see Apple putting that much effort into differentiating the boards - 
except for RAM/VRAM/CPU speeds, they are almost 100% identical... 
But hey, maybe they DID do something to disallow people from swapping 
screens - keeping margins high and all that.  And it wouldn't be the 
only time they put in a ROM block to prevent certain upgrades.  B&W 
G3 CPU upgrades come to mind...

Thanks for the tip about GetRom.  Unfortunately, I can't get the cs 
to use the ce display correctly and I don't have a good cs display 
(my data cable is toast - too much playing with it  *sigh*).  So the 
cs is essentially unusable at the moment.  Sooner or later, I'll pick 
up a video adapter for the PDS card, but who knows when I'll get off 
my butt... ;-)
