3400/kangas are not that much better sounding than 1400c powerbooks. The concept of having all those speakers to give the "surround" effect is nice in theory however the speakers used in the final product weren't very high quality. Basicly I think that you'll always be better off with the external speakers no matter what laptop you get...even the newest ones.
