Cliff: I've got one I use at work to back up CDs on. I've got OS 9 on my PB 3400, and the drive works fine and will boot the machine. I don't know about 8.6. Of course, I have 144mb RAM in my PB 3400, which makes a difference in running 9.
Have you tried using Drive Setup? That's what I did.
