Help! My "new" 5300 is clutching its chest and breathing its ante-penultimate breath.
It won't start up. Push the button--zip. Check the battery--right up there at 16.34 volts. Check the adapter--right up there at 23.12 volts. Reset the power manager--no AC input, no battery--for two hours. Zip. Oddities. If I have the battery in and the AC plugged in, push the button--zip. Just the battery, push the button, normal chimes, two seconds later, a soft click and the HD doesn't spin up and there's a soft 'beep'. Push the button again, the screen flashes white then black, the (normal) chimes again, still nothing. Different adapter, no change. Different battery (from my other 5300) no change. Different battery and adapter at the same time, no change. I have the manual (pdf) and followed the instructions for resetting the power manager, but the startup won't get far enough to zap the PRAM. Anyone have any ideas other than to give it a hero's funeral? BTW, I don't think it has been through the REA program--nothing on the bar code tag on the case bottom or in the battery compartment. Does this mean REA--lly dead? Any and all help appreciated. Donn -- PowerBooks is sponsored by <http://lowendmac.com/> and...
