It was cool seeing the 5300cs pop up in the G4 iMac's (OSX 10.2.3)
network, to say the least ; )

Sort of. The old Lucent brand WaveLAN gold and silver cards were re-
branded some time ago. I think the name and/or companies handling it
have changed about 4 times. Apparently, the Orinco cards are identical
to the WaveLAN except for badging, but Orinco drivers (on Proxim's
site, I believe) state the minimum for running the card are OS9 (or
something higher than what I wanted to run on the 5300cs) whereas the
old Lucent drivers state compatibility down to System 7.5.2 and a PB
down to the 190. The old Lucent drivers are available on
versiontracker. Now, if you find an Orinco card (which seem to be cheap
and plentiful), from what I've read on the list, it should work with
the old Lucent drivers, but I never tested it so I couldn't guarantee
it'd work. BTW, the Lucent WaveLAN silver is exactly what's in my
original ABS. I don't know what's inside the new ones. I imagine if you
could find a dead ABS on ebay (dead from the capacitor problem) for
cheap, you could pull the card from it and use it just fine. The
previous Apple AirPort cards were also manufactured by Lucent, which is
why you see in this thread that AirPort drivers will work for them, as
well. The only difference is that the AirPort card has no built- in
antenna.

HTH,

Cathy
