Never had any luck myself. Sure, the 3Com card (exact model escapes me)
mounts fine on the desktop and is seen by TCP/IP, but that's it.
Neither of the two dongles I have (3Com 974302-1 and 3Com 07-0405-000
0111) light their LED, to say nothing of getting the computer on the
network.

There was speculation earlier as to whether or not it was possible the
card was bad despite being fully recognized by the computer, which is
why I was reluctant to track down a PC laptop to test the setup with. I
can still do that.

Had an offer to send everything I have to Brian to troubleshoot but
never got around to it.
