If you can locate an old battery, they can be rebuilt. I had one done for me for $51 - new ones are around $100 - 120. I don't think your idea would work, but it is at least worth a try. By the way, if you do want to rebuild an old battery either yourself or have someone do it, I'll sell you one for $10, plus postage. Mailing being cheapest rate possible. I have two old ones.
