Brand? Type?  : -)

The 9.6v pack I bought has 8 tabbed AA-size NiMH cells, since that's what 
would fit inside a PB500 series battery. As for brand, I imagine you'll 
find various brand cells inside R/C packs. Stop by the hobby shop and 
examine what they've got, it'll be pretty obvious what will fit the bill 
and what won't.
