Drew, I don't think it's the inverter and I know it's not the backlight because of the following symptoms: First, I do get video at first, but it is a bit off and some colors seem washed while others are over saturated. Second, the video always deteriorates within a few moments into general distortion, color smearing, and finally all white. I haven't done PB repair for long but I have repaired Macs for years and the video deterioration reminds me of the CRT gun alignment that needs to be done when a new video board is put into an iMac. Plus, even though the guy I brought it to is a crook, he is a tech and his guy DID check it out. And this occured when I was out of the country for a year and my responsible little sister used the PB daily, but didn't send it to Apple for warranty service. She said that for 6 months, the screen would do that, but hitting it in the back of the screen firmly would fix it. Hmmmm..
I don't know. Now you've made me think about more possibilities. I suppose it could be a number of things, but I will have to get it apart to find out. I am open to suggestions.
