Regarding RAM Doubler and Speed Doubler --

For RAM Doubler, be sure to check out the FAQ at
http://www.connectix.com/support/library.html for a lot of good info.
Here is an excerpt:

...Apple's Virtual Memory always requires the use of hard disk space to
extend memory (1 MB for every MB of physical RAM, plus 1 MB), where as
RAM Doubler does not...Since RAM Doubler does not require the use of hard
disk space, this can mean power savings for iBook and PowerBook users.
Virtual Memory must
access the hard drive to function, which means higher power consumption.
RAM
Doubler only uses the hard drive when absolutely necessary. This means
your
hard drive will be allowed to spin down more often, reducing power
consumption
and thus extending use when operating on battery power...

For Speed Doubler, I think it's great, but be aware that it will not work
with OS 9. I have a PB 1400 (upgraded to G3 cpu and 44 MB RAM), and the
performance difference with Speed Doubler is noticable, hence I stay w/
OS 8.6.

As for the OS, you'll probably be happiest with 8.1 on a 5300, provided
you have enough RAM. For performance reasons, I'd stay away from 8.6 on a
5300 unless you need it in order to run key applications.
