Kai,
There is a series of posts about this at the DUO2400 list in regards
to the greyscale Duos. I have a 280 myself. I think that the final
conclusion seems to be that no one over on that list knew what causes
the darkening screen other than guessing that it's just due to age. My
280 takes a little longer than your 540 but eventually it looks like
one of those old, almost round, TV screens from the early fifties. You
have come to the same solution that the Duolisters did. Shut it down
for awhile and the problems goes away.
