fist of all - Thanks a lot for your replies. It's good to know that i'm not the only one who has the darkening corner trouble. Very nice community here - really! And I had to laugh a lot when reading about the fifties TV screen comparison, because that's exactly what I thought about it. :)
So I'll take myself some time and read the posts-link you (Randy) gave me. But a first look at it seemed to me like no one really knows what to do against it, except the fact that it often appears on old and long time used screens. Now I'm thinking about replacing the screen by a newer one. Maybe even a color LCD. I've found one on the Web for - I think - $35. Which actually seems to be quite a good price. But it's a color LCD. Not that I wouldn't like a color LCD. But the question is: does the 540c color LCD also work in a normal b/w Powerbook 540? And does anyone have experiences in disassembling the 540 in order to replacing the LCD? So far. I think that the final conclusion seems to be that no one over on that list knew what causes the darkening screen other than guessing that it's just due to age. My 280 takes a little longer than your 540 but eventually it looks like one of those old, almost round, TV screens from the early fifties. You have come to the same solution that the Duolisters did. Shut it down for awhile and the problems goes away. Try this link (you may have to paste in back together) : <http://www.mail-archive.com/cgi-bin/ htsearch?method=and&format=short&config=duolist_lists_themacintoshguy_co m&restrict=&exclude=&words=darkening+screen> hope this helps, Randy On Tuesday, Mar 25, 2003, at 07:34 US/Central, Kai Steinmann wrote: > So when it's running for > maybe more than 2 hours i have very ugly dark spots (about 1/2 inch or > even > more) at the edges.
