Here is the most updated page from Apple on the REA. The program end on 9/30/2003. This is the UPDATED Apple public notification.
http://docs.info.apple.com/article.html?artnum=30425 The bottom line I have found is that Apple is obligated to run the book through the REA if it hasn't before gone through the process. In fact, they repaired parts in my latest book that weren't faulty (at the moment) but under the REA, those items need to be replaced. Definitely the first thing to look for is the numbers stamped inside the battery bay, but even with numbers stamped, this doesn't necessarily mean it went through the complete program. A lot of the book were sent in initially for some specific problems, which got a stamp, but then problems covered were expanded with the REA program later on. In fact, this latest book wasn't exactly within the serial numbers but they took it in. If it were me, I sure wouldn't be relying on any dealer, I would have called the Apple number myself and requested the service. Of course, I had to make quite a bit of noise to get my first one fixed because it was one of those early ones sent in that they merely attempted to solder the power adapter. It was returned to me with new logic board, new screen, power adapter and other parts. Hope this helps... Dave -- PowerBooks is sponsored by <http://lowendmac.com/> and...
