And, oh yes, what about
running with or without virtual memory?
Bill, I have a 240mhz 3400c w/144MB of RAM also. I'm running a 32 gig HD with three partitions so I'm fortunant enough to have both 8.6 and 9.1 installed on two of the three partitions. I can tell you now, that I can't tell a difference in speed from what I do (Mosty web surfing and word processing :p ) BUT, I use 8.6 a lot more often because it is compatable with the USB card support software so I can hook up my USB CDRW and printers. 9.1 is nice when I'm in the mood to listen to music because iTunes runs terrific on this machine and I love the way iTunes operates. I rarely ever use 9.1 unless software calls for it or if I want to play around with iTunes. 9.1 will use up a lot more RAM over 8.6 with or w/o VM and honestly, I can't tell a difference with VM on or off in speed either.
