It can be done, (I have done it) the Rom chips are on the upper side of the
main board, just behind the SCSI connector and under the Apple 4/8Mb card,
ladled U3 / U4, they are surface mount 44-pin chips and you have to swap
both of them.
The hard part is getting replacement chips, I was lucky and got a dead board
with the later Rom chips off e-bay for less than the postage!
