Howdy. I had to try this myself just to see if it works. And it does :) I have an Apple 8-bit external video card installed in my 1400 and it works like a charm. I just plopped the machine on my desk with the lid down, plugged in the video out cable and an external ADB keyboard. Hit the powe button on the keyboard and it fired up perfectly.
The LCD does not come on when the lid is closed, which is very nice. And everything seemed to work properly. Hope this helps :) -nils On Tue, Jun 03, 2003 at 03:34:28AM -0400 or thereabouts, Christopher Kolp wrote: > Hello PowerBook users everywhere! > > Before I purchase an internal video-out card for it, does anyone know if you > can operate the PowerBook 1400 with the lid closed if you use an external > keyboard, mouse and monitor? > > The new Powerbooks can do this but iBooks can't, which I assume is not > because it can't but because they want you to spend more for additional > features.
