The default audio format for windows is the .wav file. It is a very
basic format, but any windows user with a sound card can play one.

If all they have in the internal speaker, then unless they have
specifically installed an obscure driver that is only available for
certain versions of windows as a download from the Microsoft website,
they have no multimedia capabilities. The driver is hard to find and
does an _extremely_ poor job of playing .wav (pronounced 'wave')
files. They really don't sound anything like they are supposed to. No
other filetypes can be played with this driver.

You need to find out if they have a sound card. If they do, then they
can play .wav files. Speakers or headphones connected to the computer
are a good indication of having a sound card.

If they have Windows Media Player installed, they should be able to
play MP3's and most other file formats as well.

I am a Windows/Macintosh/Linux(now and then)/DOS(on occasion) user, so
feel free to ask if you have any more questions.

Hope this helps,
-Eric J
