Hello!

I totally failed this weekend attempting to connect my newly aquired PB to the World Wide Web. Using first OT/PPP 1.0 and afterwards FreePPP 2.6 I always got the messages: "The selected serial port is in use by another application or extension, most likely appletalk" or "An error occurred while initializing the serial port."
Now I quite puzzled, because I thought and still think that the PB hast an internal modem (otherwise I could not have been able to connect it with a normal Modem Cable), but for some reason the problem with the serial port occurs. I changed AppleTalk to Ethernet and Modem to internal Modem, but nothing changed (Modem is not found by Systemprofiler of OS 7.6.1).

Most likely you do not have the modem drivers installed for the global village modem in it. They're out there somewhere on the net, unfortunately, I can't remember where. They have been mentioned several times in this list, so a perusal of the archives might help.
