I've had exactly the same problem with my 5300cs logic board and a 5300ce display. So far, I haven't gotten them to work.

The 5300cs (and some 5300c logic boards) only has 512KB of VRAM. I've actually tried upgrding mine to 1MB by adding a second 512KB chip in the necessary location, but it hasn't worked...

There may be a ROM block that prohibits this as well - I haven't looked into that yet, though.

I think, though, that it's much more likely that my solder job was too poor to suit the upgrade. I may have to try again when I ... ahem, get my butt in gear.
