I'm not sure if this is a problem or not since I'm new to Macs but here's the situation:
My question is whether I can do something to make the card appear on the desktop and in the appletalk "connect via" list. Or doesn't that matter as long as it's working? I thought it might be possible that i would get optimum performance if wavelan showed up there.
I should also mention that under the "Missing extensions" entry in the Control panels submenu of the apple menu it says that the pc card extension is missing. If I need that is there anyplace I can download it; the powerbook came without system disks or cd?
That's the missing piece, and without the OS cd, you're screwed in general.
I would look for a OS 8.1 CD (I've seen them go for ~ $10 on the LEM swaplist recently) and upgrade your system from that, then the wirelss should work fine.
OS 8.1 is superior to 7.6, and not nearly as resource hungry as 8.6. If you upgrade that 1400 to 64 mb I'd recommend 8.6 though, as it keeps you closer to modernity. It will run up to 9.1, but even on 64 megs OS9 takes a big chunk o' memory.
