P.S. Why doesn't the powerbook list allow us to just hit the respond key and get the email of the user so we can post off list messages?

Hardly! Your address is right there for the spambot to steal...
It's just the way the Reply To: header for the list is set up. If you notice, the LEM lists work the other way round.
