Hey, I got my PB5300 on the cheap with exactly this problem! Have you tried plugging it into the PSU, holding down reset and then taking the NiCad (not PRAM!) battery out? mine worked perfectly from that exact situation after doing this! The NiCad battery needed replacing though.
