5300 won't sleep

I've got a 5300c running OS 8.6.  Lately it will not put itself to sleep 
regardless of the settings on the Energy Saver control panel.  I don't use a 
battery, only the adapter.  It will dim the screen and spin down the hard 
disk according to my settings, but seems to be on caffeine when it comes to 
sleep mode.  Any ideas?
