I bagged a Silver Orinoco card from eBay to try and follow the instructions I found here:
http://www.penmachine.com/techie/airport1400.html ... and have a few questions. I'm using OS 8.1 on my PB1400, and would like to stay there for the time being. Has anyone used the WavLAN version 6 drivers with success (http://www.versiontracker.com/dyn/moreinfo/macos/4835)? I tried putting in my network's name in the control panel, but didn't get any response. The version 7 Orinoco drivers require 8.6. I do have a Windows laptop, and threw the card in there. Though it sees my wireless access point and says it has a strong signal, it's yet to grab a valid IP, and keeps defaulting to something goofy in 164.x.x.x. I've updated the firmware using and drivers for Windows, and am not having any better result. Have it set up for DHCP, and have tried static addresses as well. Is there any easy way to determine if you're getting signal on your 802.11 card if you're not using Airport (I know of a few Classic apps that require Airport to do it)? Certainly an IP in the TCP/IP control panel would have usually been my first hope, but I'd like to see if the card registers any signal, like it's doing in Windows XP. Any suggestions for what might be going on? I do have another 802.11 card for the Windows laptop (a 32 bit card, afaict) and it works just fine. Thanks!
