I was recently given a Powerbook 180 (8 MB RAM, 120 MB Hard Drive), which seemed to work fine. I upgraded it to 7.5.5, got an Asante Micro EN/SC and got it online (using the iCab browser- which I highly recommend- www.icab.de).
Then I someone offered me a 10 MB RAM card for it- which I put in last night (following all the usual static precautions- wrist strap etc.), and now it's acting very weird! (Although I'm not sure it's the memory's fault, as when I put back the old 4 MB card I have the same problem). It boots fine, the memory is recognised, and all seem to run fine EXCEPT that the time & date seem to reset themselves at random every 30 seconds or so. I've reset the power manager, zapped the PRAM & rebuilt the desktop, all to no avail. I suspect I may need to replace the PRAM (backup) battery- I've read that date & time changes on restart are a symptom of a dead one, does this random changing while running also mean the same thing? I'm guessing that the memory upgrade was the final straw fow an old PRAM battery, and so I'm hoping that someone can point me to a good source for the battery itself, and hopefully instructions on how to replace it (I understand a little soldering is involved). Thanks in advance for any help/advice you can give me! Cris :) -- PowerBooks is sponsored by <http://lowendmac.com/> and...
