Here's what i got:
My dad has this old Powerbook 5300cs. It doesn't work- form what appears to be a bad
power card (the actual plugin port seems to have been broken off of the board). Add
to that the fact that the upper case plastics have broken apart leaving a nice gap
showing the cables et al to the LCD screen. Anyway, I was going through all of his
old stuf (a PM 7100, PB 170[broken as well] a VERY old sharp laptop[lol 7.16 mHz]
several old internal hard drives and much more computer junk he hasn't touched in more
than 3 years at least) and he threw a fit when I finally got ready to put his PB5300
on ebay. He wants to keep it because of files on the 500 meg HD that he hasn't even
tried to use in over 4 years.
SO, i need a solution, he wants his files, but if I fix the 5300 I'll need new upper
cases plastics, and a new powercard, or I can transplant a the HD into another PB, in
better shape than this one. The other option is to find some way to upload everything
he wants on to disks of some sort (floppies are out of the question)- either a CD or
ZIP disks. Problem is, I don't have a working SCSI connector for the zip drive that
would work with a PB or a compatible CDwritable drive- let alone the problem of
powering up the computer. I can put the HD in my working PB1400, but i don't want to
leave it there, since it is MY computer, not my dad's and i want to use it, and also,
my internal zip drive for my 1400 doesn't seem to be working anymore- I don't know why.
ANyway, here is the question:
I have this old, busted up computer lying here in pieces and I'm not sure what the
best option is. COuld anyone give me an opinion or two about what the best way to
proceed is? What can I do with this tiny HD with outdated, worthless software on it?
Brian
PS Sorry for the tone of this letter, but I'm a little frustrated. Thanks.
