Just a few days ago we were discussing how to get the 5300 to recognize tapping the track pad when I told everyone that the 190cs (which is supposed to be the inferior el-cheapo version of the 5300) already has that built in.

Somebody mentioned that the 190cs may have a few small features that the 5300 doesn't because it was designed post 5300 as a fill-in for the 500 series.

Well now I'm really starting to wonder just how much difference there actually is.

I also own a 3400c as some of you may know, which does not run correctly so has been sitting around in my room unused for a month or so. I use the 190cs quite a bit with wireless ethernet and especially have a need for longer battery life, but the 190cs's NiMH only lasts about 40 minutes these days. Sigh :(

EVERYWHERE on the entire internet I have ever seen people even make a mention of the fact that the 3400's longer lasting Li-Ion physically fits into the 5300/190 battery bay, they do NOT work. Thats what everybody says. In fact I do believe it was a topic on PowerBooks list a few weeks ago, where it was again confirmed that everybody agreed the 3400c/Kanga batteries do not work in the 5300/190.

I never once in the entire time I owned both of these PowerBooks ever tried putting Li-Ion batteries into the 190cs.

Well by now you've probably all guessed what it is that I'm going to say.

Today I awoke from a nap and was still lying in bed next to the 190cs, 3400c, and my trusty PB520 that were all sitting on the opposite side of the large king sized bed. Out of shere boredom and sleepiness, I was just staring at both of the laptops, observing the similarities to the industrial design, when I thought to myself I wonder what actually will happen when I put the Li Ion battery into the 190cs. So I did. The result?

The PowerBook 190cs recognizes, boots, and operates perfectly normally on Li-Ion batteries intended for use in the PowerBook 3400c and PowerBook G3 Kanga.

I don't know about you but I think thats pretty amazing.

Maybe somebody should try a crummy 5300 ;)
