My 1400 has a 333 G3 and I thought if the G3 could do the decoding it _might_ be possible, but no joy. I stuffed a DVD reader into a 1400 Expansion Bay module and was able to mount DVD disks to the desktop. But no version of Apple DVD Player would play the movie complaining there was no hardware capable of decoding and playing movies. PBs 1400 cannot use a DVD decoder PC card either as they are not cardbus capable.
A 3400 however is capable of using a cardbus DVD decoder PC card but I couldn't get that to work either using an external FW DVD-R/W drive. I can't even get that drive to play DVDs on my desktop G3 with Radeon card under classic MacOS (but it will play DVDs fine under 10.2.x.) I think there is no way a 1400 can play DVDs directly. Of course you could always use a DVD-capable 'puter to rip a DVD to a QT file and play that. Kind of a bother though just to watch a movie. Hey, a 1400 can play audio CDs, just listen to some music and read a book instead. <G> Dan K ................................. http://macdan.n3.net/ carracho://dankephoto.dhs.org:9700 hotline://dankephoto.dhs.org:9500 ................................. -- PowerBooks is sponsored by <http://lowendmac.com/> and...
