Not worth the bother unless you are _really_ strapped for cash. At least, 
not when a 24x replacement mechanism is only a few dollars away. The Teac 
CD-224e is a direct replacement for your original drive and takes only 
minutes to swap. eBay prices range from $1 to $40 with many in the $10 - 
$15 range. The speed difference isn't exactly blazing but it is noticable 
and quite worth the small investment required.

The only caveat is you may need to make a small (and easily done) 
modification to the EBM's interface PCB board to force the drive to 
Master status. 'May' because some CD-224e mechanisms need this mod and 
others don't. There are a number of revisions of the CD-224e, the revs 
are named in the form ' - A43'. I don't know which is the ideal rev, 
sorry, however AFAIK, all will work with either no mod or a minor mod.

In any case, I'd toss the old mechanism and move on up.
