Well last night after sending that email, I toiled on the 3400 til the early hours of the morning. By 2:00 AM I had pretty much pinpointed about where on the motherboard was sensitive to touch from the bottom (as in when this part of the motherboard was pushed slightly down, the whole system shut off). It was right around the audio in jack. So then another hour passed by as I fought with this thing. Finally out of pure anger I ripped the audio in jack off the motherboard. Then I crammed three quarters between the bottom of the case and the heat shield to prop up the motherboard so it would under no circumstances move downward.
It seems to have worked. This is the first email I've sent from the 3400 in well over a month. The machine has been continuously on for a long time with no random shutting off. I'm so happy. Now I'm installing Final Cut Pro 1.0 on it. Where can I get a cheap firewire card for this thing? I couldnt find any of those newer FireWire 2 go cards. But I found a whole bunch of other cards, some in the $20 range from stores. Can I get these? Every card I see says it requires a 266mhz G3 or faster processor and MacOS 8.6 blah blah. But I highly doubt that drivers require any type of processor. After all didnt final cut pro require a G3? It runs great on the 3400. -- PowerBooks is sponsored by <http://lowendmac.com/> and...
