Great tip -- system and software -- got me to
thinking...well, the 2400 is on os 8.6. We checked
the energy saving panel, and set it the way I have the
3400 set. We looked at extensions, and it did have at
least one universal usb extension. I rebuilt the
desktop, we trashed finder prefs, and ditched a few
other prefs. After doing these things, finder stopped
crashing, and we could see the pc card on the desktop
when inserted. But -- it just saw the card as a
generic card, no details.

Checking the usb extensions in the 3400 (where the
macally card works great) I saw several usb extensions
not visible in the 2400's extension sets. (mass
storage support and a few others.) So I ran the
hacked-for-all-pb's usb support 1.3.2 that I used to
enable the cardbus on my 3400.

Now the card appears on the desktop identified as a
usb card (Woo Hoo!) and after installing some
extentions to support the card reader, we successfully
ran a usb card reader off of the pc card. Yay!

This list rocks! Thanks for the help!
