I use the v4.5 with system 8.6 without problem, with my powerbook 1400.

Strydent also has an adaptor for LaserJet 1100, OfficeJet
R-Series, and HP PSC-500 printers printers, the 903-0070 adapter  is
available at a cost of $7 plus shipping direct from them.
