kaleidoscope uses a lot of processor and memory - it will significantly slow down your mac, there is another application that just puts a pic on the desktop and that doesnt alter the menucolour etc, and uses up the same amount of ram as the desktop pic is big and no more. But I can not for the life of me remember its name right now - sigh - and I put old the old diskettes in the attic. Anyone ? It was both ppc and 68 k and the name was not at all to do with desktop pics or anything similair,

Supposedly, the OS 8 Appearance Control panel and extension (and Desktop Pictures control panel) can be installed on System 7.5 (though I haven't tried it). It does work very well on OS 7.6.x, giving that OS the more polished "platinum" feel of OS 8.
