After trying every possible key combination, File Buddy, starting from another HD and from FD, and getting always the same infuriating message, "... can't be erased because it has items that are in use.", I gave up.
I unearthed my copy of Norton Utilities 5, and let it do its stuff.
I'm happy to report that after quitting NU, I sent the offending folder to the trash and finally, erased it.
