Terry re: Apart from putting in a charged battery I've done all you suggested. The power plug jiggled a bit. I removed the top to get access to the soundcard. I couldn't see any loose contacts so to be sure I connected the AC and checked whether there was any power on the soundcard connectors to the logic board. I have power there, but still it wont boot. I get the feeling the soundcard indeed is broken.
