Will the below also work with a 5300?
If you take the battery out (right bay) and start IBR _then_ plug in battery, it will try to charge it for a minute or two. Do this about 10 times if necessary before giving up.
If the above doesn't work, use a normal battery charger (150-1000 milliamps, 7-9V) and try charging the battery using sewing pins stuck into the (+) and (-) terminals, they are marked on the battery, and wires with alligator clips on the end for the actual connections. Check the voltage after 4-24 hours with a voltage tester (multitester, etc.). If you have 10V or better, your fine, just plug the battery into the 'Book and run about 5 charge/discharge cycles immediately. If you only have 9V _or less_ after all this, you have one or more dead cells. Each cell holds a normal 1.2V and there are 8 cells in the pack. In the worst case, you can cut the case open and replace with the same "AA" cells.
