How can you tell the difference between a faulty light and a bad inverter?

This might not be terribly helpful to you, but when the backlight on my Duo 230 went out, it was pretty obviously a failed inverter.

I could smell smoke, heard a sizzle, and eventually saw a small filament of smoke rise out of the PowerBook. When I took it apart, there was some scorching on the inverter.

I'd think that if your inverter failed, it would be pretty obvious, too. Look at the inverter for discoloration of the board. If a capacitor leaked, fuse burned out, or transformer blew, it would most likely leave a mark on the board.

Peace,
Drew
