I recently saw an article in a forum about computer
modifications about a special brilliant paint that
adhears beautifully to plastic if it has been washed
with ammonia. I can't remember the name of the paint.
There were pictures submitted and they looked
terrific.

Does anyone know the name of the product ???

You're thinking of Krylon Fusion, probably. This was discussed here about a month ago (end of September - do a search in the archives).

As far as I can tell, the ammonia doesn't actually add anything to the paint's ability to bond to the plastic that any good cleanser cannot. The can of paint mentions that you should clean your plastic surface with an ammonia-based cleaner (like Windex)...

FWIW, I picked up a can of the stuff for $3.89 at Wal-Mart tonight on the way home from work. The back of my 5300cs's display housing is in the garage drying as we speak. Of course, I was a little overzealous and applied a bit too much paint....

Definitely easy does it. Don't be impatient (er, like I am) and take your time. Apply one coat and wait an hour or two, then apply another (and so on).

The paint tacks up in about 15 minutes and is safe for handling after about an hour. In 24 hours it's completely dry, and after a few days it bonds completely to the plastic making it "chip proof."

Another good paint is Pactra something-or-other. I haven't gone out of my way to find any, though, since the Krylon stuff works fine for me.

Peace,
Drew
