I recently acquired a used Powerbook 520c. It's in fairly good condition with one major exception: essentially the screen is very dim. In normal lighting I can hardly make out anything. If the room is dark I can see the screen well enough, and the picture seems sharp and consistent at least.
The previous owner's theory was that the backlight needs replacing. I have searched the archives and the web for information and I think that I could get inside to find and replace the backlight (though if anyone wants to recommend a good guide and/or knows offhand what kind of light I would need to order as a replacement, please don't be shy).
But before I gather up the tools and start pulling things apart, I thought I would just ask the list whether the bad backlight theory sounds probable, or whether I am barking up the wrong tree. Thanks a lot for any advice!
