Hello Gary: I had the same problem with my first PB 540. After several months of not using it, the problem seems to have cleared up. It could be that the floppy drive has a bad connection through the cable. You might try disassembling it and very carefully reconnecting it to the cable. You can also try a floppy drive cleaning system which uses a diskette to clean the heads. They can be found at electronics stores.
