A little searching revealed MacGPS Pro and this interesting site... <http://www.hotkey.net.au/~ijcossor/nav.html>
It's kind of disappointing that GPS units aren't more evolved (though the entry level pricing is kind of nice). The Garmin iQue (a Palm OS based PDA with GPS grafted on) looks interesting and seems like a moderately compelling for navigation needs. At $550, it's not all _that_ interesting, though.
The Garmin Rino looks interesting, too. Having a radio that can "beam" your location to another radio could be a pretty important safety mechanism for the backcountry traveller, hiker, skier, etc. Do you suppose an upper range limit of 5 miles for radio-radio communication is low? 5mi sounds a little low to me, but my experience with RF isn't related to hand held radios.
Anyway, I'm still looking and thinking about GPS/PowerBook solutions.
It would be interesting to set up a Duo 2300c in a custom mount for a car with a GPS unit...
