well,... the port is there, i do not know if the card is in. I don't know
if the port being there implies the card being in? I've been told that
the only internal modem for 5xx pb's is the Global Village and the installed
driver complains about the modem not being there. Is there a simple way
to find out if a modem is there under OS 7.5.5? (like in later OS's).
Perhaps it is there, but defective... thanks for any hints.
cheers, gianfranco
Turn the computer around and look at the ports on the back of the computer.
If there's a modem installed, it'll be in the last square to the right (as
you're facing the ports). You'll be able to see the jack for the wires.
If there's no modem there, these are going for under $5.00 US on ebay, tho
you do need to know or have the help from someone who knows how to install
them--they don't come with directions.

The 500-series is a two-piece modem. One goes under the processor card, the other is in the back. If the port is there, at least that piece is installed. Do you have the latest software? I have it stored on my dotmac site, you can download it here...

According to my Macworld magazine, all the 540c models came with a modem from the factory. It was an expensive option for the others. In 1995 I paid $269 using an education discount for the modem that's still working in my 520 (now a PPC 540c).
