I have seen (on the pc side) and used terminal or file transfer software that Doesn't require the receiving end to actually have the software to get the tiles....Basically it copies itself to the other computer and runs from there...It again does NOT require the receiving end to have the software, it places itself onto the receiving end so it can complete normal Pc-to-pc transfer...
Is there a prog like that for Macs??? If so, can any of you give me a link???? This would get my powerbook going!
I would find it extremely unnerving if such software existed. I'd consider it a HIGH security risk - software that can actually copy itself to another computer, then execute it's own copied code... sounds more like a worm than a utility, to me. And any operating system that actually allows this sort of transfer is a disaster waiting to happen.
Why do you have to hook it up to a PC to get Mac software on it, anyway? Won't one of your other 4 Macs work just as well?
In any case, using a terminal emulator to transfer files from one Mac to another might be slightly more efficient on the throughput, but it's also overkill. LocalTalk works just fine, and even a minimal install of System 7.1 should have the bits you need to connect to another Mac.
Find yourself a printer cable and set up a LocalTalk network between the two Macs.
Easy-peasy.
Alternatively, find a floppy mini-dock and PowerBook Duo external floppy drive.
Peace, Drew
