The top rear lid of my beloved PowerBook 1400c (OS 9.1, Crescendo G3/333,
64MB) has developed two hairline cracks, about 1 to 2 inches long each. These do
not affect anything, other than my 1400's cosmetics, but I am wondering if
these can be easily repaired, to prevent them from getting any larger? I realize
I could (and may) just buy a replacement lid portion from the PowerBook Guy,
but if there's anyway to just stop these from getting worse, that would be good
enough. I have a feeling these may have been caused by CDs, etc. on top of
the 1400 while it's in it's bag, or maybe it's just the age of the machine
(1997). The 1400's speaker is also blown (not a big deal, as I use headphones,
anyway), and if I end up replacing the lid, I might replace that, as well. I'm
definitely going to use this machine until it's dead. Anyway, otherwise, it's in
really great shape. I do find it somewhat disturbing that this problem is only
with my 1400 and not with any of my earlier 'Books (100, 170, 230c, 540c,
190, 190cs, 5300cs). Does anyone have experience with similar PowerBook plastic
issues? TIA, Heather
